A school in Santa Rosa could be stuck in place for years after a state study found much of the campus sits on an earthquake fault.
Officials say the site of Proctor Terrace Elementary is safe, but major upgrades like a new roof are now restricted. The Press Democrat reports the Rodgers Creek Fault runs through three permanent buildings, and state law requires a 50-foot buffer for new construction.
This comes as the district faces a budget deficit of up to 15 million dollars and a potential state takeover.
