Sonoma County Starting To Rewrite Cannabis Rules

Three years after starting to revise its cannabis regulations, Sonoma County is facing renewed opposition from both residents and growers.

The Press Democrat reports county officials have released a new proposal, but neighbors say it doesn’t do enough to protect rural communities from impacts like odor, traffic, and noise. They are calling for stricter limits on where farms can be located and larger buffer zones around homes.

On the other side, cannabis farmers argue the current rules are too restrictive and have hurt legal businesses. They are pushing for regulations that treat cannabis like any other agricultural product.

The Board of Supervisors is expected to vote on the new ordinance in October.
