Windsor’s garbage hauling contractor is conceding defeat in the town’s Measure Q. As of Wednesday, only 23 percent of voters are supporting the measure, backed by Sonoma County Resource Recovery. It would have changed how Windsor handles its contract for curbside garbage collection and recycling service. But, it appears the town will keep its competitive bidding process and ten-year limit on the contract, terms that voters first enacted in 1996. Sonoma County Resource Recovery’s contract with Windsor expires in 2027. The company argued that getting rid of ten-year contracts would allow providers to offer lower rates on future garbage hauling deals.
