The Santa Rosa City Council has unanimously approved a long-stalled deal with SMART to build a critical rail crossing at Jennings Avenue.
According to the Press Democrat, the agreement, spurred by pressure from state regulators, resolves a decade-long dispute over liability, with Santa Rosa securing a fairer indemnity clause. The city will fund the $4 million construction.
The project now awaits final approval from the SMART board of directors at their meeting on December 17th. If approved, this crossing will finally address a major transportation chokepoint for the north Santa Rosa neighborhood.
