Sonoma County To Require Mandatory Masking At High-Risk Healthcare Facilities

Starting November 1st, Sonoma County is requiring mandatory masking in certain high-risk healthcare facilities through March 31st.

According to the Press Democrat, the order, issued by Dr. Karen Smith, targets places like skilled nursing homes and dialysis centers where the most vulnerable patients are cared for and outbreaks are most common.

This new mandate is narrower than last year’s, focusing only on patient-provider interaction areas and excluding general hospitals and clinics.

The move is a pre-emptive measure to combat the expected winter surge of COVID-19 and the flu.
