Safeway grocery store employees in Northern California could go on strike starting Friday.
That’s if their union, United Food and Commercial Workers, cannot reach a new deal with Safeway. The union, which represents thousands of supermarket employees in Northern California, is pushing for higher wages and better benefits. The deadline to reach an agreement is Friday at midnight. Union members have already voted to authorize a strike, if necessary.
Contract negotiations have been going on for the past five months and impact about 25-thousand Safeway employees.
