MPox Not a Concern for Sonoma County This Summer

An MPox outbreak is not expected this summer for Sonoma County. Local health experts from Kaiser Permanente and Sutter Health tell the Press Democrat that they haven’t seen an MPox case since last fall. They credit that to local vaccination efforts and, because of that, they expect no major outbreak of the virus this summer. Forty-nine confirmed or probable cases of MPox have been recorded in the county since last June with 47 of those reported through October. Yesterday, the World Health Organization ended its emergency status with the disease with cases dropping worldwide by nearly 90 percent within the last three months.
